Peru

A journey to Peru is one filled with archaeological wonder and mystery as well as magnificent scenery. Located on the western coast of South America, there is plenty to discover for the intrepid explorer and you will be greeted with a warm welcome from the optimistic Peruvian people.

No description of Peru would be complete without a mention of Machu Picchu, one of the modern Seven Wonders of the World and iconic symbol of the Inca civilisation. This mysterious city was lost for hundreds of years amidst the clouds of the Andean mountains and is the ultimate reward for those able to traverse the Inca Trail.

The four-day hike across the mountainous paths of the Andes will take you through gorgeous scenery and exotic cloud forests. Although the journey may be long and difficult, you will certainly feel a great sense of achievement after covering this mystical path.

Southern Peru is home to the Nazca Lines - another of the nation’s mysteries. Look closely into the desert and you will notice bizarre geometric shapes etched into the ground. These hieroglyphs are thought to date back to 500BC and have baffled theorists ever since.

Peru can also be visited as part of a cruise to South America. The most common ports include Callao (for Lima) and Pisco.
