Malta

Malta sits well within the central Mediterranean Sea, just south of the Italian island of Italy. This beautiful archipelagic nation is home to some of the most beautiful settlements in the world, filled with fantastically-preserved 16th-century architecture, charming locals and an array of pristine golden beaches. It is made up of three large islands - Gozo, Comino, and Malta Island - with the latter of the three being the largest and home to the nation’s capital of Valletta.

Due to the small size of Malta and its position within the Mediterranean, the nation’s UNESCO World Heritage capital is easily accessible via an ocean-bound cruise, as well as being suitable for a land-based stay. The city’s peninsula makes for an enjoyable stroll and provides an opportunity to soak everything in. Some of the most impressive must-visit landmarks include the ornate St. John’s Co Cathedral, the Palace of the Grand Masters – which houses the President’s Office – and the historical Fort of St. Elmo.

Venture to the south-western coastline of Malta Island and you will find the temples of Hagar Qim and Mnajdra – both of which date back to 3600BC. These fascinating landmarks are perfected atop of the cliffs and provide an unparalleled historical insight as well as stunning views of the surrounding area.

While Malta Island offers plenty of appeal, the second largest island of Gozo should definitely not be overlooked during your visit. A high concentration of churches, temples and fortifications combine with the lush green countryside. With fabulous sunsets visible on the horizon, it also makes for a romantic place to relax and unwind after each busy day of exploration.
